Privacy policy

What this site collects

Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people visit and how they found the site. It sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) and records the pages you view, your browser and device type, the site that referred you, and an approximate location, such as a city or region, derived from your IP address. We use this only to decide which guides and tools to improve. This site doesn't show ads.

Google processes this data under the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.

Newsletter (Buttondown)

If you subscribe to The Field Notes, your email address goes to Buttondown, the service that stores our subscriber list and sends the emails. We use it only to send the newsletter, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. Buttondown's privacy policy covers the data it stores.

Free calculators

The profit calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you type aren't sent to us or anyone else, and they aren't saved: reloading the page clears them.

Purchases (Etsy)

Every product is sold through our Etsy shop. This site has no checkout and never sees your payment details. When you buy, Etsy handles payment and shares the order details with us as the seller so we can deliver and support your order. Etsy's own privacy policy, published on etsy.com, covers how Etsy handles your information.

Hosting and fonts

The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and block abuse, under the Cloudflare privacy policy. Page fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser also connects to Google's font servers.
